Michael Sharpe: Heartfelt tributes to much-loved man after body found in Firth of Forth

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a much-loved man whose body was found in the Firth of Forth.

The body of Michael Sharpe was recovered from the water at Burntisland, Fife, on Friday, March 19. Police were only able to confirm his identity this week.

Police said that their enquiries into the death have concluded, and it is not being treated as suspicious.

The Daily Record reports that heartbroken friends and family have been sharing tributes to the 22-year-old, from the Bonnybridge area.

One person said: "It’s with great sadness I have the misfortune of losing not only my best friend but my brother.

"Michael Sharpe has been my closest friend since we were in Primary 3 and I’ve never known a more kind, funny, outgoing, and bubbly person.

"I’ve always looked up to Michael so the idea of losing someone like him really breaks my heart. I have so many amazing memories of Michael and he was the most important part of my childhood.

"There is a long road ahead for me with getting to terms with losing him but I’ll always look back and remember Michael as my best friend.

"He was always there for me to fall back on so losing someone like that is heartbreaking but Michael would want me to keep my chin up and I’m going to do my best. Here’s to you Michael. I love you."

Police said in a statement on Tuesday: "Officers who were appealing for information to help identify the body of a young man that was recovered from the Firth of Forth at Burntisland on Friday, 19 March, have now concluded their enquiries.

"The body has been confirmed as that of 22-year-old Michael Sharpe from the Bonnybridge area. His family are devastated by their loss, Michael was a much loved family member, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
