Michael Shannon back at A Red Orchid, plus more season casting

June 11--Michael Shannon, the actor known for his roles on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and in "Man of Steel" among other screen properties, will return to A Red Orchid Theatre in Old Town next season to perform in its fall show, "Pilgrim's Progress" by Brett Neveu.

A spokeswoman for the theater announced ensemble casting for the entire season on Thursday.

The actor has several major films slated for release in 2015, including "Elvis and Nixon," wherein Shannon plays the King of Rock and Roll to Kevin Spacey's Richard Nixon.

Shannon was last at A Red Orchid in Sam Shepard's "Simpatico" in 2013.

In "Pilgrim's Progress," he'll star alongside Kirsten Fitzgerald and several more actors that will be announced later. Shannon and Fitzgerald will play parents whose son is an "Earth-poet" and whose teen daughter is pregnant, making for an eventful Thanksgiving dinner. Shade Murray will direct.

The theater also named its ensemble actors who will perform in "The Mutilated" by Tennessee Williams. The wintertime production, directed by Dado, will feature Lance Baker, Jennifer Engstrom, Mierka Girten, Steve Haggard, Murray, Doug Vickers and Natalie West.

And the previously-announced Haggard will star in "Sender" by Ike Holter. That production is also to be directed by Murray.
