Michael Schumacher's son Mick makes emotional admission after first F1 test

Mick Schumacher declared he was "feeling like home" after making his emotional first appearance in Ferrari colours.

The Schumacher name was emblazoned on the iconic red car for the first time in over 12 years as the son of seven-time world champion Michael made his Formula 1 test debut.

The German youngster made a huge impression by clocking the second fastest time of the day at the Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain.

The eye-catching display on his first official outing in F1 machinery marked a significant step in his bid to follow in the footsteps of his father.

And the confident 20-year-old issued a serious warning to his future rivals by declaring "there is a lot more to come" as he reflected on a historic afternoon.

“The emotions I can tell you were really nice. It was feeling like home already,” Schumacher said.

“It was beautiful to make those first laps and to see all those guys working on the car and working with me. I felt very comfortable and felt at home.

“The feeling I had going out and the first time on the throttle… this thing has so much power. I felt good and there is so much potential in the car with the speed through the corners and in traction it is hard to describe.

“I am sure there is a lot more to come. You can brake later and later and later and the car would still stop in the same way. It was crazy really.”

Schumacher Jr, who is signed up to the Ferrari Driver Academy, finished eighth on his F2 debut at the weekend.

He'll now switch to the Alfa Romeo F1 car for Wednesday's test session as he looks to build on his strong start at the highest level.

He added: “I’m just waiting to get out there again and just looking forward to it really, trying to improve the spots that I wanted to improve today.

“Every single time I went out, I learned something new about how to drive the car, about the feeling I had in the car, the feeling I was looking for in the car.

“I think we managed really well, thanks to the guys that explained it to me in the right way and managed to bring me that information that I needed.”
