Michael Schumacher's doctor has insisted he does "not perform miracles" and slammed the idea he is carrying out "experiments" on the seven-time Formula One world champion.
Schumacher, 50, received stem cell therapy in September in the French capital Paris, though very little information was given regarding the German who has not been seen in public for almost six years following his skiing accident.
But now Schumacher's doctor Philippe Menasche, 69, has spoken with popular Italian newspaper La Repubblica .
"There was an explosion in the attention our department received but the situation has already normalised," he said, when referring to the media hype surrounding the procedure.
Little was known about the operation. Local media reported it as "experimental" however Menasche put rest to those rumours assuring "everyone is looking for me but I have not used experimental cures."
Menasche said: "I do not perform miracles. My team and I are not doing an experiment, an abominable term that is not in line with a serious medical view."
Menasche reportedly performed a stem cell transfusion on the driver and reassures that "there has been a lot of progress on the subject in the last 20 years which by the way there is still a lot to learn"."
Menasche is a professor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and the University of Paris Descartes.
He works in the European Georges Pompidou Hospital and leads a team devoted to stem cell therapy for cardiovascular diseases.
Menasche is considered a pioneer in stem cell research.
