Michael Penix Jr. Arrives at Heisman Ceremony Wearing Touching Tribute to Coaches, Teammates

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. knows the value of a team effort.

The Huskies' veteran signal-caller, after all, has been around two programs' most successful teams of the 21st century: Indiana's 2020 flash in the pan, and Washington's 13-0 campaign in 2023.

He is a man who has seen a lot of college football history—six years, or 3.9% of the sport's 154 seasons—and he has the perspective that comes with that, as he demonstrated Saturday evening ahead of the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York.

Penix displayed to reporters a jacket that contained the names of every single one of his teammates and coaches on the Huskies.

Washington is set to make its second College Football Playoff appearance on New Year's Day, when it will play Texas in the Sugar Bowl.

That's largely due to the efforts of Penix, who lived up to and exceeded a 2022 campaign in which he finished eighth in the Heisman voting. The Tampa native has completed 65.9% of his passes for 4,218 yards and 33 touchdowns against nine interceptions in 2023.
