Michael Owen weighs in on the Eddie Nketiah buzz at Leeds United

England legend Michael Owen has sung the praises of Eddie Nketiah after the Leeds United star’s electric start to the season.

The 20-year-old, on loan at United from Arsenal, scored a brace for England’s under-21s last week as they beat Turkey 3-2.

Owen, speaking on BT Sport ahead of England under-21’s Euro 2021 qualifier against Kosovo, picked out Nketiah as a special player.

“Twenty-three goals in 26 games at all levels for England so far,” said Owen. “He has already scored goals for Leeds, obviously on loan from Arsenal.

“This lad looks like he is a real top player. I was speaking to Ian Wright about him the other day, only because a lot of people were saying to me 'he plays like Ian Wright, on the shoulder'.

“He likes running in behind. He scores goals, but maybe he can improve his hold-up play.”

Nketiah played 76 minutes for the under-21s as they ran out 2-0 winners over Kosovo on the night, with Manchester City’s Phil Foden scoring both goals.

The starlet is still waiting for his first league start for Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites, having scored in his two League Cup starts, as well as coming up with the winner off the bench against Brentford.
