Michael Owen urges Pep Guardiola to make decision over Phil Foden at Man City

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has urged Manchester City to allow Phil Foden to leave the club on loan.

The 19-year-old is highly-regarded at Man City with Pep Guardiola describing him as 'the most talented player I've ever seen'.

However he has found it hard to establish himself in Guardiola's side this season although he scored twice for England under-21s in their 2-0 victory over Kosovo on Monday night.

Owen now believes that Foden's development would be aided with a spell out on loan, explaining that the experience would improve him as a player long-term.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Owen said: "It is a big debate. He is training with some of the greatest players on the planet every single day and with Pep Guardiola but there is nothing quite like having hardened pros either side of you and going on loan almost rounds you off as a player.

"I don't think you have to be choosy (about a club) just get him out there, get him playing games. (He will learn) how to win, how to please fans and how to play well when your touch is a bit off."

Owen has been in Foden's shoes as one of the most talented young players in the country and he thinks that the City youngster would be grateful of the chance to play regular football.

He added: "Look at the England team, there are hardly any players who go straight through. You have Marcus Rashford but apart from that there are few who don't go and get experience."
