Michael Owen has criticised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his "negative" tactics in Manchester United's goalless draw away at Leeds.
United beat the Whites 6-2 in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, but Sunday afternoon's meeting was one of very few chances at Elland Road and finished 0-0.
Scott McTominay and Fred started in the centre of midfield for Solskjaer 's side, a combination the Reds boss has used regularly this season.
Owen, speaking to Premier League Productions, stated his disappointment with the way the Norwegian lined up against Leeds.
"I was disappointed with the team that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picked," the former United forward told said following the 0-0 draw.
"I thought it was quite a negative team. You’re going to a team that you’ve already beaten 6-2 in the Premier League, you don’t really need two sitting midfielders.
"I thought it was a negative statement to start with."
Solskjaer, to some people's surprise, left Paul Pogba on the bench and waited until the final 20 minutes to bring the in-form midfielder onto the pitch.
Before the game, the United manager explained his decision to opt with Daniel James instead because of the energy the Wales international brings to the team.
He told MUTV: "You have to think about this game but also the run of games we're facing.
"Dan did really well against Leeds at home. His high energy, his one-against-one, his defending, everything about him suits this game."
Pogba could come into Solskjaer's side for Thursday's Europa League semi-final against Roma at Old Trafford.
In the Premier League, United are now 10 points behind leaders Manchester City following the stalemate in Yorkshire, and also extended their gap to Leicester City down in third-place.
