Michael Owen's Premier League predictions including Arsenal vs Man Utd clash

Michael Owen is backing Mikel Arteta to earn a first win as Arsenal manager in New Year's Day's big clash against Manchester United .

Arteta has so far overseen a draw at Bournemouth and a home defeat against Chelsea during his brief Gunners tenure after replacing Unai Emery.

But there was plenty to be positive about in the hosts' display against the Blues on Sunday, with Owen claiming that they "bossed" the first 45 minutes against Frank Lampard's team, who scored twice late on to win the game 2-1.

And in his tips for the Bet Victor blog, Owen fancies Arsenal to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side with both teams finding the net.

One newly-appointed boss who will taste defeat on Wednesday though, according to Owen, is Carlo Ancelotti.

The Everton manager takes his team to Manchester City off the back of two straight wins, but former Liverpool forward Owen thinks City will have too much for the Italian's side even though the Toffees will score.

"Whether Ancelotti will play as attacking a side at the Etihad as he did against Newcastle remains to be seen," Owen wrote.

"I expect to see the champions take all three points from what promises to be an open entertaining game with opportunities at both ends."

Newcastle are backed to get a draw at home to high-flying Leicester as both sides find the net, while Owen sees few problems for table-toppers Liverpool as they host Sheffield United on Thursday.

"Yes, they have ridden their luck at times," says Owen, "but you must admire their consistency and resilience as well as their undoubted class. and I would be surprised if they didn’t start 2020 as they finished 2019 with a home win."

The former England forward has also backed wins for Chelsea, Burnley , Tottenham , Wolves , Crystal Palace and West Ham .
