Michael Owen's Europa League predictions as Arsenal and Man Utd begin campaigns

Michael Owen predicts Premier League sides to come out with the points in the Europa League this week.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker has examined his former side's visit of Kazakhstan champions FC Astana on Thursday evening as the Red Devils seek to win the silverware for the second time in four seasons.

Meanwhile Wolves host Sporting Braga on Thursday evening at Molineux, Nuno Espirito Santo is embarking on his first European campaign with the Wanderers.

Arsenal travel to Eintracht Frankfurt as last year's runners up face off with last season's semi-finalists.

Celtic face a trip to Rennes, while Steven Gerrard's Rangers host Dutch side Feyenoord at Ibrox.

Owen reckons that the Premier League sides will be celebrating with all three points and he admitted that it would "be disappointing" if United didn't get off to a winning start.

"United gained a narrow, but much-needed, win against Leicester on Saturday and should follow it up in what is the first European game between English and Kazakhstani clubs," Owen told BetVictor.

"Astana lost 2-0 against Bate Borisov in Belarus in the last qualifying round but had won the 1 leg 3-0. It would be disappointing if United did not get their Europa League campaign off to a winning start."

The 39-year-old added that he thinks the Gunners will have their chances on the break against Frankfurt and feels their quality of strikers will give Emery a winning start.

Regarding Wolves, the Super Cup winner hoped they "extend their excellent European record" , after winning all six Europa League qualifying round games to reach the Group Stages.

In terms of the Scottish powerhouses, Celtic and Rangers, Owen believed both would have to "settle" for a point in their opening games.
