Michael Owen ready to 'tell all' about Liverpool, Man Utd and more in explosive new book

Premier League icon Michael Owen enjoyed a remarkable playing career - and the legendary striker is ready to reveal all in an explosive new autobiography.

Owen published his debut book ‘Off The Record' back in 2004 but is keen to tell his full story now he is enjoying retirement, having hung up his boots in 2013 after a one-year spell with Stoke.

Before that unsuccessful Potters spell, Owen enjoyed a glittering career with Liverpool , Real Madrid , Newcastle and Manchester United .

His move to Spain to join European heavyweights Madrid in 2004 courted much criticism among Reds fans, and this is one of the topics Owen will discuss in his new book which is set for a September release.

How England's World Cup 2022 squad could look

In an exclusive interview with Reach Sport/Liverpool Echo , the former England striker revealed: “When I wrote my first book it was early in my career and you do it because somebody asks you and you think it will be a decent enough idea. Your agent at the time probably says ‘yes, you should do it’.

“So you just go with the flow at the time. But when you look back, as much as I enjoyed writing it, it’s not really necessarily what I think now.

“You get older, wiser and you’ve got more opinions. You’ve seen more and I’ve obviously had a full career since then.

“So I decided that it would have been nice to write a book, for a few reasons really.

Premier League young player of the year debate: Experts decide who should win

“One was to have a keepsake and to put down what I feel and what happened in my career.

“But also, more so than most, I reckon my career has split a lot of opinion... I constantly get asked the same questions regarding the teams that I have played for.”

Owen scored 40 goals in 89 internationals for England, and is also ranked ninth in the all-time Premier League goalscoring charts with a whopping 150 strikes.

But the former Anfield favourite divides opinion, another reason why he has decided to release another book.

“I get a fair amount of stick on social media and through things like that, you can do a million interviews but no-one seems to get the message once for all,” he added.

“At least if it’s in black and white, I can tell everybody exactly how I feel, what happened, the situations and all the little nuances that nobody knows anything about.

“Also, when you’re playing in your career, you’ve not really got a voice in terms of saying certain things, so it’s been really enjoyable doing, therapeutic almost to get it all out and say what has happened.”
