Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has backed England to win the Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday at Wembley.
The Three Lions have reached their first major international tournament final since their 1966 World Cup win thanks to a 2-1 win over Denmark after extra-time, courtesy of a Simon Kjaer own-goal and Harry Kane's rebound off a saved penalty.
They will take on an Italy side who have been largely favoured since the start of the tournament and progressed to the final themselves with a penalty shootout win over Spain after a 1-1 draw.
Owen, who scored 40 goals in 89 caps for England during his career, was speaking to BetVictor ahead of the final and believes that England are finally going to break their hoodoo on Sunday night.
He said: "England needed extra-time to get the job done against Denmark in the semi-finals, while Italy were taken to extra time by both Austria and Spain.
"I can see this being a tense, nervy affair with goals at a premium and I am going for this one to finish 1-1 after 90 mins.
"However, with another incredible set of fans urging them on, I fancy England to finally claim their first major trophy in 55 years with a winner in what will surely be a nerve-jangling extra time.
"As with the Danes in the semi-finals, I’m going with 1-1 after 90 minutes and 2-1 to the Three Lions after extra time.”
England have conceded just one goal during the tournament so far and will need to be at their best to beat Roberto Mancini's Italy side, who themselves have conceded just twice. Kick-off is at 8pm on Sunday July 11.
