Michael Owen names four contenders as he makes Premier League title prediction

Michael Owen has revealed his four contenders to win the Premier League, admitting he has been particularly impressed by one club.

The English top flight has thrown up plenty of surprises this season, with Tottenham currently sitting top after 10 games for most sides.

Manchester United and Manchester City sit ninth and 11th respectively, while Arsenal are all the way down in 14th.

To restore some normality, Liverpool and Chelsea are also in the top four as things stand.

And former Reds striker Owen admits that while the title could be anyone’s this year, there are four clubs in particular that stand out to him.

He told BT Sport: “If ever there was a season where you think a team could win it who you didn’t fancy at the start, it’s this one. It’s wide open right now.”

“But I still narrow it down to four teams: Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham. Chelsea have a great shout.”

Speaking after their highly impressive 4-0 away win over Sevilla on Wednesday, Owen went on to praise the efforts of Chelsea so far this season, highlighting Olivier Giroud after he scored all four goals.

“Chelsea are looking very good, Lampard has got them playing really well,” Owen added.

“They’re obviously doing well in the Premier League, but they’re flying in Europe.

“They made nine changes against Sevilla and were still brilliant. What a squad they’ve got.

“Giroud is probably the third choice striker at Chelsea and that shows their strength in depth.

“He has much better movement than he’s given credit for. It was a masterclass of finishing. It was pure class from Giroud tonight.”
