Michael Owen makes 'season defining' prediction for Manchester United vs Atalanta

Michael Owen has said Manchester United’s Champions League clash against Atalanta is “season-defining” but backed the team to get the job done.

United have lost two of their last three Premier League games and face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Before that clash, they welcome Italian side Atalanta in Europe. Having lost their opening Champions League fixture to Young Boys before overcoming Villarreal thanks to a last-minute Cristiano Ronaldo goal, Wednesday’s fixture has taken on extra significance.

And with a tough run of games on the horizon, former United striker Owen believes the pressure is on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get a result – something he thinks will happen thanks to the Old Trafford crowd.

“This feels like a season-defining game for United. Their form hasn’t been great and after that defeat to Leicester at the weekend, the pressure is massively on Solskjaer here,” Owen said via The Mirror.

“I’m expecting a brilliant atmosphere at Old Trafford and think Atalanta might struggle to deal with it. I don’t think it will be emphatic, but I think United will win 2-1.”

Atalanta head into the Group F tie top of the group on four points, having beat Young Boys and drawn against Villarreal.
