Michael Owen makes Portsmouth vs Arsenal prediction for FA Cup clash

Former Liverpoo l, Real Madrid and Manchester United striker Michael Owen has had his say on Monday night's FA Cup fifth round clash between Portsmouth and Arsenal .

The 1939 and 2008 FA Cup winners will be hoping home advantage will be key as they welcome Mikel Arteta's side to a bouncing Fratton Park.

Pompey, currently pushing for the automatic promotion spots in League One, will be determined to prove they can make the step up in class and will take encouragement from their 4-2 fourth round win against Championship side Barnsley.

But Owen believes the step up will prove too much for Kenny Jacket's men against the 13-time FA Cup winning giants and predicts that Arsenal will make easy work of the south coast club.

He said: "The Gunners are undefeated in 25 of their last 28 FA Cup matches and I think they have too much about them to be worrying about an upset."

The importance of Monday night's clash takes new significance for Arsenal, as a shock Europa League exit at the hands of Greek side Olympiacos means the FA Cup is Arteta's last chance of delivering silverware this season.

Owen expects this incentive to prove crucial as the two clubs prepare to fight for a place in the quarter final.

He explained: "Now that Arsenal no longer have the Europa League to focus on, I fancy Mikel Arteta to set his men up with attacking intent, aiming to secure an early goal and settle any nerves.

"If that happens, I can see Arsenal dispatching Pompey with relative ease and thereby extending their impressive FA Cup record."

The history books don't look to favourable for Portsmouth either, as they have failed to beat Arsenal in their last 21 attempts, dating back to 1958.
