Michael Owen makes Manchester United vs Rochdale and Mason Greenwood prediction

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has provided his prediction on the outcome of the third round Carabao Cup clash with Rochdale.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are looking to respond after the disappointing 2-0 defeat at West Ham United on Sunday.

That result followed 1-0 wins over Leicester City and Astana in the Europa League and the recent run of fixtures will mean that United rest a few of their star players at Old Trafford.

Owen is hopeful that United can call upon Mason Greenwood for the tie, with the 17-year-old potentially set to be offered the chance to shine from the start.

Marcus Rashford is dealing a groin injury and is expected to miss time but an illness could also keep Greenwood — who scored his first professional goal in the Europa League last week — out of contention.

Owen is fully expecting United to return to winning ways and is predicting the Red Devils to lead at half-time and full-time at the betting price of 1/3 with BetVictor.

"United are short of striking options with Marcus Rashford hobbling off with what looked like a groin injury against West Ham on Sunday," Owen explained in his BetVictor blog.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is optimistic, however, that Mason Greenwood, who scored the winner against Astana on Thursday in the Europa League, will be over the illness that prevented him travelling to London at the weekend.

"Rochdale have lost three of their last four games in all competitions and I expect to see United return to winning ways back on home soil."
