Michael Owen makes interesting Liverpool prediction ahead of Shrewsbury clash

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes the Reds will have too much for Shrewsbury Town, despite not fielding any senior players, at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp has been very public about his dislike of the FA Cup replay system, and with it being in the Premier League mid-season winter break, the Liverpool boss has decided not to field any senior players and will leave responsibilities with under-23s boss Neil Critchley.

The Reds were pegged back from two goals up as Shrewsbury earned a surprise replay against the Premier League leaders.

The winner of the replay will travel down to Chelsea for the fifth round of the competition, and former striker Owen believes the young Reds will still have too much for the League One outfit.

"Jurgen Klopp and his senior players are on their winter break and under-23s coach Neil Critchley will take charge of a young Liverpool side against Shrewsbury who came from two goals down to earn a replay last month," Owen said to BetVictor.

"There is something of an aura around Anfield at this moment in time and I believe the Reds will win an entertaining tie against a Shrews side who have lost both games since the original 2-2 draw and have failed to find the back of the net in those defeats."

Critchley took charge of Liverpool earlier in the season, with Klopp's side out in Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup, the young Reds were thrashed 5-0 at Aston Villa at Villa Park.
