Michael Owen makes huge Thiago claim Liverpool fans will love

Michael Owen has raved about Thiago Alcantara after his return to first-team action for Liverpool against Newcastle United.

The Reds were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at St James' Park on Wednesday night that will see them finish 2020 three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool spurned a host of gilt-edged opportunities, whilst Newcastle 'keeper Karl Darlow was in magnificent form to keep them at bay.

One positive from the match, though, was the return of Thiago. The Spanish summer acquisition has been out of action since the middle of October with an injury but returned to the fold on Wednesday to given Jurgen Klopp a much-welcomed injury boost, replacing James Milner for the final 17 minutes of the match.

In those closing stages, Thiago left Liverpool fans excited after a timely reminder of the quality he brings to the team, dictating the tempo of matches with his sublime passing range.

That was encapsulated by Owen's response to Thiago's injury comeback, with the former Reds striker delighted to see him back on the field.

Owen tweeted on Wednesday night: "We've only been treated to snippets of play so far but I genuinely get excited when @Thiago6 steps onto the pitch.

"He's so different to anything in the @premierleague. A proper baller."

After making his third Premier League appearance and returning from the treatment room, Thiago sent a clear message to those Liverpool fans that have been longing for his return.

He tweeted: "Back on track. Time to move on. Up the reds! #YNWA."
