Michael Owen makes Chelsea vs Manchester United prediction that Blues fans will love

Former Liverpool star Michael Owen has offered up his verdict on the clash between Chelsea and Manchester United this evening and fans of the Blues will love it.

Frank Lampard's side currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League as they sit one point ahead of Tottenham, who jumped to fifth with a late win over Newcastle United on Sunday, though Jose Mourinho's men have played a game more.

United, meanwhile, are way back in ninth and six points adrift of Chelsea ahead of the meeting at Stamford Bridge.

It's a critical game for both sides in the race for the top four and Owen is backing Lampard's men to come out on top in a 'close affair'.

Premier League preview: Chelsea v Man Utd

"Manchester United have failed to score in three successive league games for the first time since 2016 after their goalless draw with Wolves," Owen explained in his BetVictor blog.

"I don’t think we will see many opportunities at Stamford Bridge in what is arguably the game of the weekend in the Premier League.

"The last time Chelsea beat United was in the 2018 FA Cup Final and United have won on their last couple of visits to Stamford Bridge – in the FA Cup last season and the League Cup earlier in the current campaign.

"Chelsea were thrashed 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season, but that scoreline clearly flattered the hosts with the Blues hitting the post twice in the first half.

"I expect to see Chelsea take maximum points in a tight, close affair."
