Michael Owen makes Chelsea vs Liverpool prediction for FA Cup clash

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has had his say on his old team's FA Cup fifth round clash against Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Jurgen Klopp's team travel to Stamford Bridge having suffered a rare dip in form, losing two out of their last three matches - a narrow defeat by Atletico Madrid and a 3-0 thumping by relegation-threatened Watford .

Frank Lampard also finds his Chelsea team in the midst of a blip, with Saturday's 2-2 draw at Bournemouth contributing to a poor run of only two wins in eight games across all competitions.

Tuesday night's FA Cup fixture offers both sides the chance of redemption and a place in the quarter finals of the competition and Owen, who lifted this trophy for Liverpool in 2001, believes the game is this round's pick of the bunch.

Speaking to BetVictor he said: "For me, this is the tie of the round. Frank Lampard's four winner's medals is a reflection of his love affair with the competition and Liverpool are the best team on this planet this season."

Chelsea dispatched of Nottingham Forest and edged past Hull City to reach this stage whilst Liverpool beat Merseyside rivals Everton and League One's Shrewsbury Town, despite Jurgen Klopp making wholesale changes to the team to focus on Premier League and Champions League commitments.

Owen isn't expecting bags of goals, and thinks Chelsea will have their work cut out regardless of the German's team selection.

He explained: "Since there are no replays at this stage of the competition, I see this being a tight, cagey affair. However, much will depend on the side Jurgen Klopp decides to put out, although as both Shrewsbury and Everton can attest to, even a more youthful Reds side will take some stopping."

This fixture sees the first FA Cup meeting between these two sides since Frank Lampard's playing days, when he helped The Blues to a 2-1 win in the 2012 final.
