Michael Owen insists that a draw against Olympiacos was "not a disaster" for Tottenham last night (Wednesday), despite throwing away a two-goal lead.
Spurs were pegged back by the hosts in Greece, after Harry Kane and Lucas Moura had given Mauricio Pochettino's men a 2-0 advantage at the Karaiskakis Stadium, only for Daniel Podence and Mathieu Valbuena to net for Olympiacos to earn a point.
After the game, some pundits were critical of Spurs' performance, with Rio Ferdinand stating that Tottenham would be "kicking themselves" after letting a two-goal lead slip.
But Owen said he is confident that the draw will not damage Spurs' chances of getting through the group, which also contains Bayern Munich and Red Star Belgrade.
“When you’re looking at the table - especially with Bayern Munich in there and winning the first game - with Red Star and Olympiacos, they [Tottenham] only really need to beat them both at home, and they will do, they’re too good a team for those two," the former Liverpool and Newcastle striker said, speaking on BT Sport's Champions League highlights programme.
"It’s not a disaster. The only slightly upsetting part is that they were 2-0 ahead and really should have closed the game.”
However, Owen said that Podence's goal just before the break was the turning point in the game, adding that it gave the hosts confidence, while denting Spurs'.
"We've seen a few teams letting slip two-goal leads in the last few weeks," he said.
"Obviously Tottenham doing it won't do their confidence any good.
"They didn't make too many mistakes with the first goal, there is literally one tiny little spot in the goal where he could score and it is a fabulous finish. It gives them momentum, conceding before half-time is always a little bit of a dagger and it gives them [Olympiacos] a lift, they can cling to something."
