Michael Owen hails Liverpool star whose 'unbelievable work' goes unnoticed 'every game'

Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen has hailed the work Fabinho produces for his old side in every game he plays.

Liverpool’s campaign has been heavily disrupted by injuries, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota all spending time on the sidelines.

However, it is the injuries sustained to Van Dijk, Gomez and Joel Matip that have caused the most damage to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Dutchman underwent surgery at the end of October on anterior cruciate ligament damage sustained in the Merseyside derby earlier that month.

Gomez also went under the knife in November after suffering his own serious knee injury whilst away on international duty with England.

While Matip was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign back in February after picking up an ankle ligament injury against Tottenham Hotspur at the end of January.

As a result, Klopp has been forced to play Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in defence for much of this season.

However, the Brazilian moved back into his natural position against Arsenal on Saturday night with Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak starting at the heart of the Reds’ defence.

Two goals from Jota, with a Mohamed Salah strike in between, sealed all three points for Klopp’s side against the Gunners at the Emirates.

And Owen, speaking after the game, praised the former Monaco man and claimed nobody touches him in the Premier League in regards to how he 'sniffs danger out'.

He said: “It’s important to get him in there. He does unbelievable work. Every single game you watch him. It’s one of those unless you are watching out for him.

“He is probably one that goes by because he’s not the one making these creative passes or he’s not one who scores too many goals. But he sniffs danger out virtually better than anybody in the Premier League.”
