Michael Owen claims reported Liverpool target is 'absolutely exceptional'

Premier League leaders Manchester City have been drawn against Villareal in the Champions League round of 16 and Michael Owen has been waxing lyrical about a reported Liverpool target.

The former Liverpool striker was discussing Arnut Danjuma, who he highlighted as a threat for City going into this tie.

Dutchman Danjuma has been linked with a move to Liverpool after some exceptional performances for the reigning Europa League champions - including one at Old Trafford.

And Owen was full of praise for the former Bournemouth winger after Monday’s Champions League draw.

“We mentioned the game at Old Trafford earlier in the season and he was absolutely exceptional,” Owen said on BT Sport after the draw was made.

“He plays on that left side and he’s very direct, he can beat players, he can score goals and he comes in and he’s an attacking player and you know, he gave that Manchester United defence a real scare.

“We’ve seen him in English football, probably not enough, but you have to take your cap off to him for going away to play on a big stage.

“I think he still sees himself coming back as a more finished article, but he’s done a lot to impress a lot of people this season.”

Danjuma may feel like he has unfinished business in the Premier League as his only season resulted in relegation with Bournemouth.

The Dutchman has come to Liverpool ’s attention after shining in the Champions League and may get a chance to put things right if the Reds are to follow up on their interest.
