Michael Owen and Mark Lawrenson share their predictions for Newcastle United's clash vs Wolves

Newcastle United will be looking to make a return to winning ways when they travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

After heading into the most recent international break off the back of an impressive 3-1 home win over Burnley, the Magpies were brought back down to earth last time out by Manchester United.

After making the dream start against the Red Devils at St James' Park last Saturday evening, finding themselves 1-0 up inside less than five minutes thanks to an own-goal from Luke Shaw, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side came roaring back, running out 4-1 winners, as they scored three times inside the final few minutes to leave Tyneside with all three points in the bag.

Defeat to Manchester United meant that Newcastle now boast a record of just two wins inside their opening five games. However, Steve Bruce will be hoping to see his side secure their third league win of the campaign against Wolves on Sunday.

Like the Magpies, Nuno Espirito Santo's side have also had an indifferent start to the campaign results wise. While they have enjoyed successes over Fulham, Leeds United and Sheffield United, they have also been beaten by both Manchester City and West Ham United, with the latter putting four past the Molineux club at the London Stadium.

With that in mind, both sides will fancy their chances of securing maximum points this weekend.

And in the build-up to the weekend's latest instalment of Premier League action plenty of pundits and former players have been lodging their predictions for the 10 fixtures that will take place between Friday evening and Monday night, including Bruce's sides trip to the Black Country to face Wolves.

Here, we have taken a close look at what some of the pundits have predicted for the Magpies' trip south.

Mark Lawrenson - Match of the Day pundit

Every week, Match of the Day pundit Mark Lawrenson will go up against a famous celebrity in predicting the weekend's 10 Premier League matches for the BBC Sport website. This weekend he is going up against Style Council drummer Steve White.

And when it has come to pencilling in his prediction for Sunday's clash at Molineux, Lawrenson is favouring a win for the home side, as he has backed Wolves to run out 2-0 winners.

Michael Owen - Former Newcastle striker

Just like Lawrenson, former Newcastle striker Michael Owen also pens weekly predictions for the weekend's Premier League fixtures.

The former England star pencils his predictions in for BetVictor in a special weekly blog.

Unlike Lawrenson, Owen is backing Bruce's side to leave Molineux with something, tipping the game to end in a draw.

Though he has not predicted a specific scoreline, he has explained why he thinks the contest will end all square.

Penning his blog, Owen said: "Wolves come into their home match against Newcastle after a good win on the road against Leeds on Monday night.

"It was an even game for much of the contest, and I think a similar match could be played out here.

"I think United will be hard to break down and can see them taking a point back up to Newcastle."
