Michael Owen accuses Gary Lineker of asking him "naughty question" live on BT Sport

Michael Owen accused BT Sport host Gary Lineker of asking him a "naughty question" when he queried which badge he preferred: Liverpool or Real Madrid?

Owen, who is a pundit on BT Sport for a Champions League quarter-final clash between the two European heavyweights this Tuesday, was speaking about the two clubs ahead of kick-off.

Owen represented both sides during his career with the forward progressing through the ranks as a youngster at Liverpool in 1996 before signing for Real Madrid in 2004.

The former England international spent just one season at the Bernabeu before returning to the UK and signing for Newcastle.

In the BT Sport studio on Tuesday, Lineker said to Owen: "You played for both clubs, Michael…"

Owen replied: "It carries you, doesn't it. The badge, honestly, I don’t think people realise but when you get to the later stages, if you're equal, that club experience, that badge doesn’t half carry you."

Lineker said: "Which badge did you prefer, Michael?" Owen replied: "That's a naughty question!

"Liverpool of course, Liverpool was my life, wasn't it?" Lineker concluded: "I was only teasing."

Real Madrid take on Liverpool at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano this week as the Bernabeu is having work carried out on it. The return leg will take place at Anfield on Wednesday, April 14.
