Michael Obafemi says he would have to be an idiot not to sign for Burnley after Swansea City 'difficulty'

Michael Obafemi says he would have been an "idiot" not to sign for Burnley this month.

The striker has been on Vincent Kompany's radar for some time and finally secured a switch to Turf Moor little more than 48 hours before transfer deadline day.

He joins the Clarets on an initial loan deal that is virtually guaranteed to be made permanent in the summer due to the terms of the contract.

And the Republic of Ireland international says he endured a tough spell on the sidelines at Swansea City prior to joining the Championship leaders.

"It has been a difficult few months but now I am here I need to work hard and get myself in the team," he told the club website.

"Just because I am here doesn't mean I am going to play every game and I need to work hard to show everyone why he (Kompany) signed me.

"The project that he is building is phenomenal. I see myself being part of it. I think I would be an idiot not to come here, you look at the career the manager has had and I feel like I can learn so much from him. I feel like it is the right step in my career.

"I feel like I fell in love with the way they played the first time I saw them play against Huddersfield, it was amazing to watch and I couldn't get my mind off it! To be part of it is special.

"I've almost manifested it, in a way. I've just been praying and hoping that it happens. It has and I'm thankful."

Obafemi netted 15 goals in 52 appearances for Swansea.
