Michael O'Neill to West Brom rumours as Northern Ireland boss responds to speculation

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill has responded to speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at West Bromwich Albion.

It was reported yesterday that the Baggies were poised to make an official approach to open talks with O'Neill.

Speaking on Tuesday, O'Neill distanced himself from the speculation despite admitting the lure of club football was "always attractive."

He added: "It is nice that people recognise the job that you are doing.

"Of course club football is always attractive and you can never plan too far ahead in football."

O'Neill penned a four-year contract extension with the Irish FA last February, a month after rejecting the Scotland job.

"I am under a long-term contract with the IFA and have two very important games in June, that is where my focus is at the minute," he added.

Northern Ireland face an away double-header against Estonia and Belarus next month having hoping to build on their opening two opening Euro 2020 qualifier wins

O'Neill added:  "The Championship is certainly a very appealing league to work in.

"The club game now, there is so much instability in it and the tenure of managers is very short term.

"When you are looking to step out of the situation I am in, you are always looking at what the structure of the club is and that it is right for me."
