Michael O'Neill's Stoke City to play Linfield in pre-season friendly

Michael O'Neill's Stoke City are set to play Linfield in a pre-season friendly on August 15.

Former Northern Ireland boss O'Neill is bringing his Potters to Windsor Park for the game.

The Championship club will travel to Belfast on Tuesday ahead of the friendly four days later, reports the BBC.

O'Neill stepped down as Northern Ireland boss back in April after eight years in charge.

During his successful international tenure Northern Ireland qualified or the 2016 Euros and narrowly missed out on reaching the World Cup two years later.

His Stoke City side will kick-off the new Championship season on September 12, while Linfield begin their Champions League campaign tomorrow against Tre Fiori.

If they win that qualifying preliminary round semi-final they will progress to next Tuesday's final, with both games being played in Nyon, Switzerland.

The Blues will begin the defence of the Gibson Cup on October 17, the provisional date for the start of the new Danske Bank Premiership season.
