Michael O'Hanlon dead: Man arrested over death of bodybuilder 'Mr Scotland'

A man has been arrested after a bodybuilder who recently won the Mr Scotland title was found stabbed to death on an industrial park in North Ayrshire.

Michael O’Hanlon, who won the National Amateur Body Building Association (NABBA) title earlier this year, was found dead at Moorpark industrial estate in Stevenston in broad daylight on Monday.

Emergency services were called but the 45-year-old died at the scene after attempts to resuscitate him failed.

Police Scotland detained a 43-year-old man and he is expected in court in Kilmarnock later today.

Mr O'Hanlon ran a bodybuilding shop called Musclebox O’Hanlon in the east end of Glasgow with his partner Eileen Kirkwood. He won his first Mr Scotland title 23 years ago.

After his body was found, a Police Scotland spokeswoman told The Independent: “Police and emergency services responded to a report of a 45-year-old man having being injured in the Moorpark industrial estate in Stevenston.

“The man was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance staff. A postmortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death, which is being treated as suspicious.

“Inquiries are at an early stage, however detectives are following a positive line of enquiry.”
