Michael O'Halloran's 6 minutes of Rangers madness as Steven Gerrard makes his feelings known

Michael O'Halloran faced the wrath of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as he took on his former club in a disastrous six-minute cameo.

The former Ibrox winger entered the fray in the Premiership clash at McDiarmid Park as a 77th minute substitute, with his St Johnstone side already 3-0 down after goals from Kemar Roofe, Glen Kamara and Ianis Hagi.

The scoreline would stay the same for full-time - but Saints finished the game a man down after O'Halloran proceeded to pick up two bookings in two minutes and headed up the tunnel.

It was a straightforward decision and neither O'Halloran nor his Saints team-mates had any real complaints about the call.

One man did have some choice words to say about the tackles themselves though - the Rangers manager.

Gerrard made sure O'Halloran knew what he thought of his actions as he walked back down the tunnel, just six minutes after crossing the sideline in the other direction.

O'Halloran is booked for a trip on Morelos as the Colombian, himself subbed on moments earlier, tries to carry the ball up the park.

It would maybe go in the bracket of a tactical foul but there's no denying he deserved the caution from referee Nick Walsh.

Perhaps it was slightly needless considering St Johnstone trailed by three goals already, but fair enough.

However, what unfolded minutes later was quite extraordinary...

O'Halloran then proceeds to leave one on Borna Barisic near the halfway line.

It was in a nothing area of the park, with his side already trailing by three goals, and while it probably didn't merit a red alone, it was certainly worthy of the second caution.

He seems to have a moment of realisation as Walsh blows the whistle, with Barisic crumpled on the turf.

The referee must have thought he'd be in for an easy ride to the finish with one team so dominant, but not so.

Walsh didn't hesitate for a second and the two cards were out of his pocket immediately.

And Rangers boss Gerrard clearly wasn't happy with the incident.

O'Halloran saunters off the Park but not before the Liverpool legend gives him some choice words.

Saints boss Callum Davidson doesn't know where to look and he'll have undoubtedly been furious at his player for such a lack of judgement.

The St Johnstone man looks back as if to dismiss his gripes but he'll be facing one of the most pointless suspensions a footballer has ever earned.
