Michael Mosley's favourite weight loss breakfast - and 'one' diet everyone should follow

Diet expert Dr Michael Mosley has revealed his top breakfast option that helps keeping him full without the need for mid-morning snacks.

The nutritionist, known for his 5:2 and Fast 800 eating plans, explained that he changed up his breakfast habits after discovering his out choices were causing his glucose levels to spike.

The doctor detailed his breakfast routine on his BBC Sounds Podcast "Just One Thing" alongside his guest Tim Spector, urging listeners to think about their breakfast food if looking to lose weight.

The pair spoke about the benefits of a good breakfast in order to keep you full until lunch time. Moseley revealed his go-to breakfast is now an omelette as he highlighted the importance of keeping glucose at a healthy level when trying to stay a healthy weight.

Explaining his previous breakfast choices before comparing his new picks, Dr Michael Mosley said: "I was eating a lot of sugary, carby stuff for breakfast. I slapped on one of those [glucose] meters and it went crazy.

"So these days I eat omelettes with veg in.

"The way I judge it now 'do I get crazy hungry at 11 o'clock?'. If I get crazy hungry that suggests that whatever I've had a couple of hours earlier isn't that great."

The diet guru went on to explain that there is one key diet that those looking to slim down should follow to help shift pounds, which is the Mediterranean diet.

Mosely has long hailed the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, which is inspired by the eating habits and traditional food typical of Portugal, southern Spain, southern Italy and parts of Greece.

In the podcast he said it involves eating "lots of nuts, oily fish, veg and olive oil."

He explained that when it comes to adding fish into your diet you should "think SMASH, that is salmon, mackerel, anchovies sardines and herring", with these options the best for helping stick to a Mediterranean diet.
