Michael Morpurgo sends a message to children in Christchurch, New Zealand

The Faultline Fiction reading group from Fendalton school in Christchurch, New Zealand is the first group member of the Guardian children's books site. Here's how they describe themselves:

"We are a group of 10- and mostly 11-year-old boys and girls from Christchurch, New Zealand. We just started the book club this year. In February our beautiful city suffered a massive earthquake. Many lives were lost and thousands of homes destroyed. Our city centre is in ruins with so far over 700 buildings demolished and another 700 to go. Many bookshops and libraries have been destroyed and damaged so that we borrow mostly from school. Many of the places we visited are gone now so we really like our reading even more than before. It is the earthquake which inspired our name. Reading takes our minds of all the damage that is around us and helps us cope. And we love it."

Faultline Fiction's favourite author is Michael Morpurgo. Hearing about the group touched his heart so much he recorded a special message for all the Faultline Fictioners. Listen to what he had to say here and read Fautline Fiction's Postcard from Christchurch
