Oct. 02--The latest Michael Moore documentary, "Where to Invade Next," has been confirmed as the Oct. 23 centerpiece screening of the 51st Chicago International Film Festival.
Moore, the rollicking auteur from Flint, Mich., visited the festival last year for a 25th anniversary presentation of "Roger Me." He's scheduled to present his latest provocation, which premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Reports from Toronto say it covers everything from "the benefits of female leadership to prison reform," as one Variety correspondent put it. But there's an overriding concern with how America's foreign policy has worked out lately. Moore also reportedly deals with matters of health care, gun control and education in the U.S. compared with various European nations.
"Where to Invade Next" is scheduled for a December theatrical release. It'll be the inaugural offering of a new distribution company run by former Radius heads Tom Quinn and Jason Janego and by Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League.
"We hope to remind Americans they have the inalienable right to laugh, especially in an election year," read a statement from the film's distributors.
