Michael McIntyre left 'horrified' after new BBC show The Wheel ends in disaster

Michael McIntyre was left 'horrified' on Saturday night when his new game show unexpectedly ended in disaster.

BBC's The Wheel, which airs straight after Strictly Come Dancing, sees celebrities help out contestants in general knowledge questions in a bid to win some cash.

But last night's episode ended in an outcome show bosses never predicted, where neither of the three contestants won anything, the Mirror reports.

In complete astonishment, Michael said: "This show is supposed to raise the mood of the nation, this is worse than Newsnight!

As This Morning's Alison Hammond roared with laughter in the background, Michael joked: "This is so depressing! I would rather watch a Prime Ministerial briefing!

"We never thought nobody would win! It maybe came up in one meeting, and then we were like, 'Naa'.

"One in four, three times? Naa. And look at us now, a bunch of losers."

The TV host couldn't believe how poorly the celebrities performed in their areas of expertise, with radio presenter Tony Blackburn incorrectly answering a question on the BBC, and Love Island star Maura Higgins with her wrong answer on Ireland.

She was called up to help contestant Barrie with the question: "Geographically speaking, from which of these Irish counties would it be most accurate to say 'It's a long way to Tipperary'?"

The options were Limerick, Donegal, Cork or Dublin. Despite her gut instinct being Donegal, she instructed Barrie to go with Cork, which was incorrect.

The move resulted in Barrie losing his place on the show, and the £10,000 he'd worked hard for.

"I am going to be ashamed of my life, I will never be let back into Ireland!" said mortified Maura.

When final contestant Kirstie incorrectly answered the programme's last question on bears, the huge prize pot vanished.

Michael continued: "I am so horrified. Tony has lost his job because he has embarrassed himself too much with his questions.

"Maura can't go back to Ireland.

"This has been the worst night of my life, I am never speaking to anybody here ever again.

"It says on the auto cue, 'Thank you to the celebrity experts', but I don't think I should read that one."

The Wheel continues next Saturday on BBC One.
