Michael Lyster has his say on Joe Brolly being replaced for RTE's All-Ireland final replay coverage

Former Sunday Game presenter Michael Lyster says it is not unusual for RTE to change pundits for a replay.

Joe Brolly will be replaced by Donegal coach Stephen Rochford for RTE's coverage of this Saturday's All-Ireland football final replay between Dublin and Kerry.

Speaking on the broadcaster's decision to replace Brolly, Lyster told The Irish Sun: “Obviously I am out of the loop.

"Now I can only guess, but it would not have been uncommon for us to change the panel when I was on the Sunday Game, from one match to a replay.

“You know that’s not something unusual.

"Now I know that Joe had strong views about the referee during the drawn match and all that.

“But, to tell you the truth I would only be guessing as to what the situation is, as opposed to actually knowing anything about it.

“And in terms of going forward, that’s something I genuinely can’t tell you either, with Joe Brolly or Pat Spillane or Colm O’Rourke or anybody.

"That’s a decision, I guess every year, from time to time as we went through the years, we’re always assessing the situation.

“And sometimes — and it did happen to a couple of our panellists — that we have to say, ‘I think there is someone else coming along and we don’t necessarily need that person anymore’, or whatever the case might be.”
