Michael Laudrup has ruled himself out of taking over from Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers. The former Swansea manager, who is currently in charge of Lekhwiya in Qatar, had been installed as the bookies’ favourite to take the reins at Loftus Road but told the Danish paper Jyllands-Posten on Wednesday that he is not interested.
On Tuesday the Dane had also been linked to taking over the Japanese national team but said: “It is always positive to be linked with big jobs and taking over one of the biggest teams in Asia [Japan] or QPR are big jobs.
“But, having said that, I would also like to say that I have no intention to leave Lekhwiya at the moment. We are top of the league and are starting the group phase of the Champions League in two weeks.”
Reports of Laudrup being the frontrunner for the QPR job emerged on Tuesday night after Tony Fernandes tweeted: “Think I have got my dream manager. Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I’m very happy. Press all wrong.”
On Tuesday talks with Tim Sherwood broke down before QPR recorded their first away win of the season under the caretaker Chris Ramsey with a 2-0 win over Sunderland.
Laudrup added: “We also have the cup coming up so the next three and a half months will be very exciting and intense and I don’t want to miss out on that.”
