Earlier this week, ESPN announced a major move by bumping the release date of their highly anticipated 10-part documentary about Michael Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls. LeBron James has been among the most vocal proponents of releasing the documentary. ESPN even used a clip of LeBron’s statements in support of an expedited release while everyone is at home during the pandemic, showing that he was one of many NBA fans who wanted it out. That, for the record, has been pushed back on by none other than Michael Jordan’s son, who says the updated release has nothing to do with LeBron or the Road Trippin’ crew’s requests.
There’s also another angle to consider, according to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, during a recent appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd: Jordan and his camp decided 2020 was the proper time to release the previously unreleased footage that gave incredible access to the 1998 Chicago Bulls, in large part due to a surge in the LeBron vs. MJ debate following LeBron’s 2016 championship.
