Michael Jackson musical set to hit Broadway in 2020

The King of Pop is moonwalking to Broadway.

The Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage announced Tuesday that they are developing a new jukebox musical inspired by the life of Michael Jackson.

The show, as of now untitled, is expected to arrive on Broadway in 2020.

Songs will be from the Jackson catalogue. The book is by Brooklyn writer Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner known for "Ruined" and "Sweat," gritty dramas that respectively dealt with women scarred by war in the Congo and working-class Americans grappling with downsizing.

Jackson, who died at age 50 in 2009, had plenty of drama in his life. Details about what the show will cover are scant. The involvement of the estate could mean that the story will shy away from controversial aspects of Jackson's life.

Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon ("An American in Paris") will direct and choreograph.
