Michael Jackson fans are outraged after the late singer’s name was taken out of Quincy Jones’s forthcoming London show.
The music producer’s event was previously billed as a night celebrating three of the late pop singer’s most iconic albums – Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad – in June, complete with a live symphony orchestra.
A new poster now cites the event as Quincy Jones: Presents Soundtrack of the 80s. Defining Albums and Iconic Songs.
Songs by Michael Jackson will still be performed on the night. However, the event will incorporate other significant artists of the era.
The names of Michael Jackson's albums have been removed and there are no references to the singer in the descriptions.
Tickets for the event went on sale in February. According to the BBC, some fans are requesting refunds and accusing organisers of false advertising. Others claim they only wanted to see performances of Michael Jackson’s albums, and not the works of other artists.
It is currently unclear whether the change has anything to do with the ongoing controversy over Channel 4 documentary Leaving Neverland, which features interviews with two men who claim Jackson sexually abuse them.
In the film, James Safechuck and Wade Robson allege they were abused by Jackson when they were children.
Jackson’s family members and his estate have categorically denied the allegations against Jackson, who died in 2009.
