Michael Irvin says Jay Gruden approached QB wrong this week

Even Michael Irvin is getting in on the Jay Gruden critique this week.

Gruden told the media the Washington Redskins didn’t have a plan at quarterback earlier this week. He eventually named Colt McCoy the starter, yet an injury to Case Keenum and the uncertainty with Dwayne Haskins prompted the situation.

Irvin, though, noted during an appearance on the Dale & Keefe at WEEI that this sort of talk is something players watch.

“So for your team to hear that you have no plan,” Irving said, “…you can never say you have no plan. Because then you just lose the team.”

The former star said coaches talk to their teams through the media sometimes, so one can see how this sort of angle from Gruden could prove problematic.

At this point though, every little thing Gruden says or does will get hyper analyzed with his seat cleary warm given the team’s terrible start.

Gruden now has his guy at quarterback though, so wins would mean the quieting of any sort of criticism about his handling of the position.
