Michael Ibrahim, the brother of Kings Cross nightclub identity John Ibrahim, has undergone surgery after being shot in central Sydney on Sunday night, just four months after he was released on parole.
Michael Ibrahim, 36, was taken to Sydney hospital with non life-threatening injuries, reportedly to his shoulder, after being shot while standing on a footpath, police said.
He was then transferred to St Vincent’s hospital.
The attack happened outside the Dorchester House office building on Macquarie Street about 10.30pm on Sunday.
Detective Superintendent Allan Sicard said police were looking for two men who were seen in a white car, possibly an Audi, the ABC reported.
Ibrahim is the younger brother of Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim and former bikie gang member Hassan Sam Ibrahim.
Michael Ibrahim was out on parole after being sentenced to a minimum of six years for the manslaughter of Robin Nassour in 2006.
During his parole hearing, he told the board he wanted to move on with his life, wouldn’t break the law if released from jail and would abide by the “most stringent” parole conditions.
Being behind bars while his mother was treated for cancer was a “wake up call”, he told the parole board.
He was reportedly subject to a range of strict parole conditions, including electronic monitoring and keeping away from Kings Cross and other parts of Sydney.
Michael Ibrahim was acquitted in 2012 of conspiring to murder nightclub owner John Macris, whom he believed was responsible for gunning down his brother, Fadi Ibrahim, in Sydney’s north.
Parts of the CBD were sealed off overnight as police rushed to the scene, but all roads subsequently reopened.
Police expected to speak to the victim on Monday as investigations continued.
