Michael Gove gives blunt response to Bishop of Leeds live on Sky News

Government minister Michael Gove gave an interesting answer live on Sky News this morning (Tuesaday) when he was asked to respond to a comment posted on social media by the Bishop of Leeds.

Bishop Nick Baines had asked the question on Twitter whether "we accept being lied to, patronised and treated by a PM as mugs" following the events of recent days in relation to advisor Dominic Cummings.

The tweet has now been retweeted more than 1,000 times, but Michael Gove wasn't willing to respond with anything more than a short sentence after hearing it during the interview.

The Bishop tweeted on Sunday: “The question now is: do we accept being lied to, patronised and treated by a PM as mugs? The moral question is not for Cummings - it is for PM and ministers/MPs who find this behaviour acceptable. What are we to teach our children? (I ask as a responsible father.)”

Presenter Kay Burley read the tweet out for Michael Gove to listen to and his response was simply: “I wish him well”.

Burley replied: “Is that all you want to say to him? Oh my goodness, are you sure that's all you want to say to him?"

You can watch the exchange below:

The tweet from the Bishop follows news that Mr Cummings, who is the chief advisor to the PM, allegedly broke lockdown rules in April by travelling from London to Durham.

Despite calls to resign, Dominic Cummings has said he acted legally and responsibly. He has also received support from the Prime Minister.
