Michael Gove brands Scottish border protesters just 'a few bampots'

Michael Gove has branded pro-independence campaigners, who staged a protest at the Scottish border, "a few bampots".

The convoy of Action for Scotland protesters stood near Scotland's border with England on the A1 earlier this month, with Saltire flags and a banner that read "staycation keep Scotland covid free ".

One protester was even heard telling passing drivers to "stay the f*** out" in live footage that was shared across social media.

At the time, Edinburgh councillor Mark Brown described the activists as "utter cringe" and said ""no matter how bad your day is, at least you aren’t embarrassing yourself by waving flags and shouting obscenities at passing motorists".

And, now Michael Gove has also put the protesters on blast, calling them "bampots who don't speak for Scotland".

The Cabinet Office Minister made the statement after speaking to traders in the hospitality industry during a visit to Alness in the Highlands, reports the Herald.

He said: “I think they’re just a few bampots who don’t speak for Scotland. You will always find some people in any situation who will engage in these sorts of stunts.

“They don’t speak for Scots and I know that’s the view of the First Minister as well.”

Action for Scotland's Sean Clerk has revealed plans for further demonstrations, including at the airport Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, as well as train and bus stops.
