Michael Gardyne in the dock over alleged Rangers 'homophobic slur' as SFA set hearing date

Ross County star Michael Gardyne faces an SFA sweat over alleged comments made to a Rangers player last month despite being cleared by his own club.

Outgoing compliance officer Clare Whyte has cited the 34-year-old and he will face an SFA hearing on January it has been confirmed.

County cleared him over any wrongdoing but the governing body believes he has a case to answer oven an alleged "homphobic slur".

Gardyne was at the centre of a row after an alleged comment directed at  Alfredo Morelos, who had just been fouled by County's Iain Vigurs.

His long-time agent Tom Callaghan issued a strong defence but he will now have to plead his case next year.

County said earlier this month: “Following an incident involving Michael Gardyne during our recent home fixture against Rangers the club has now concluded an internal investigation.

“As a result the club will be taking no further action against the player and no further comment will be made.”

Gardyne was booked following the altercation, with many Light Blues players and manager  Steven Gerrard  irate at the lack of a more severe punishment.
