Michael Gardyne cleared over Rangers allegations as SFA drop charges against Ross County veteran

Michael Gardyne is in the clear over allegedly making homophobic comments directed at Rangers stars after the SFA dropped their charge.

The veteran winger was cited by the compliance officer for aiming derisory and homophobic comments at Connor Goldson and Alfredo Morelos in their Global Energy Stadium clash on Hogmanay.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard had come out and made the claims on behalf of his players after the game and urged County to investigate.

The Highlanders did launch their own investigation and cleared Gardyne of any wrongdoing.

Gardyne’s representative, Tom Callaghan, had also confirmed to Record Sport the player’s comment had been 'f***y' and had not been of a homophobic nature.

The compliance officer still decided to hit Gardyne with a notice of complaint but has now had to drop that ahead of the hearing.

It is believed Gardyne’s version of events had also been stood up by match referee John Beaton.

A Ross County statement read: "Ross County FC today welcomes the SFA’s decision to withdraw the notice of complaint served to Michael Gardyne.

"We now consider the matter closed and will be making no further comment."
