DETROIT _ Michael Fulmer has never thrown a pitch for the Mets. But his place in team history is assured.
The then-minor league right-hander was the player the Mets traded last July for Yoenis Cespedes. Without Cespedes, the Mets would not have reached the World Series.
Fulmer, the Mets' first-round pick in 2011, has become a star in Detroit. The 23-year-old, who will not face the Mets in this weekend series, is 9-2 with a 2.42 ERA in 17 starts for the Tigers.
"I talked to (Tigers advisor) Jim Leyland the other day," Terry Collins said. "He wanted to know if we had any more Fulmers we wanted to trade. I told him I wasn't sure, but I wanted to know if they had any more Cespedeses they wanted to trade."
