Michael Flatley will bring 'Lord of the Dance' to Chicago

Dec. 03--Michael Flatley, aka the lord of Irish dancing, announced Thursday he will headline the national tour of his "Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games" and is bringing the farewell tour to Chicago in March 2016.

The show, which Chicago South Side-native Flatley has called his final onstage appearance as a dancer, is currently in a New York engagement through Jan. 3. The Live Nation tour kicks off in Florida in February and is coming to the Chicago Theatre (175 N. State St.) March 2 for just the one show. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7; $29.50 -- $149.50 via Ticketmaster outlets, more information at thechicagotheatre.com.

"Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games," like many of Flatley's creations over the last decades ("Riverdance," "Celtic Tiger," "Feet of Flames"), features a troupe of Irish dancers in hard shoe on an even harder stage, as well as much lighting, technology and special effect. In addition to Flatley, dancer Fergal Keaney is in the title role.

And if "Lord" should prove a Chicago sell-out, which is likely, the previously announced tour of "Riverdance -- The 20th Anniversary World Tour" is coming to the Loop April 5-10 (though sans Flatley), hosted by Broadway in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph St.); more information at 800-775-2000 and broadwayinchicago.com.
