What do Michael Fish and Winnie the Pooh have in common? Not merely an interest in the weather, it turns out, but also fictional renditions by a man named David Benedictus, who has just signed a deal to write a new story about AA Milne's bear.
Mr Benedictus, a writer and actor, was at the centre of an entertaining row, upon which I reported when I worked at a different paper, because he published a memoir including the wonderful, but entirely untrue, fact that weatherman Fish was involved in "a wife-swapping circle in east Twickenham".
Fish threatened to sue; Benedictus had to remove (physically, in the case of the first edition) the offending passage from his book and apologise.
I can hardly wait to find out what this fertile mind thinks Pooh bear has been up to.
