'Michael Edwards does it again' - Liverpool fans say same thing as Arsenal key to Kabak transfer

Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Ozan Kabak on transfer deadline day.

The Reds have been in the market for a defender, after Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez suffered long-term injuries earlier in the season, leaving Jurgen Klopp short of options at the back.

An injury to Fabinho has further diminished his options, leaving the Premier League champions with no choice but to enter the transfer market.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of players, but on deadline day they appear to have settled on one in Ozan Kabak from Schalke.

The deal will initially be on loan, with a £22million option to buy at the end of this season.

Liverpool could, however, have had another player much closer to home.

Shkodran Mustafi is out of contract in the summer and Arsenal are ready to terminate his deal to get him off the books. Liverpool were linked with making a late move for the German, but that is not going to happen.

Mustafi still has a role to play, however.

Schalke are not willing to let Kabak leave for Liverpool until they have a replacement lined up. Step forward Mustafi, who looks set to be that replacement.

And some Liverpool fans believe it is all down to their transfer guru Michael Edwards.

The Mustafi to Liverpool links were interesting, if a little strange, and the theory is, as you can see above, that Edwards instigated it to pique Schalke's interest.

Both deals look set to be completed today, before the deadline, although if Mustafi's contract is not terminated, Schalke must sign Mustafi before 5pm, when the Bundesliga transfer window shuts.
