Michael Eavis reveals Paul McCartney will 'hopefully' headline Glastonbury in 2020

Michael Eavis has revealed that Paul McCartney will “hopefully” be performing at Glastonbury in 2020.

The festival organiser was speaking to BBC Somerset when he revealed that the former Beatles frontman has been in “good form” and could top the bill next year.

McCartney previously headlined Glastonbury in 2004, and has been linked with the festival multiple times over recent years. Eavis teasingly asked BBC Somerset not to "make a big thing of it" – possibly suggesting he shouldn't have let the news slip.

Emily Eavis previously told eFestivals that two headliners had already been booked for the 50th anniversary festival in 2020.

Macca fans were disappointed to see him announce tour dates over the same weekend of this year's event, ruling him out of appearing at the festival.

Instead, this year’s Glastonbury festival will be headlined by The Killers, The Cure and Stormzy.

The likes of Kylie Minogue, Janet Jackson, Liam Gallagher, Miley Cyrus and Tame Impala will also perform at the event, which takes place from June 26–30.

McCartney released his most recent studio album Egypt Station in 2018, embarking on an extensive tour and appearing on Carpool Karaoke.

The news comes after a ‘lost’ video of the Beatles’ only live Top of the Pops appearance was unearthed in Mexico.
